I know that many people are unsure of fasting. They don’t know what it means or how to do it. So in a nutshell, fasting is a spiritual discipline in which you deny yourself food, or certain foods, for a specified period of time as an act of surrender and worship. And this may come as a surprise to you, but fasting isn’t for God. He’s not going to think you are a better Christian or a more spiritual person because you fast. Your worth to God is totally dependent on Christ. So if you are fasting to prove to God how good you are, don't bother! Fasting is for YOU. It’s a spiritual tool that God created to help you strengthen your spirit, learn self-control of the flesh, draw closer to your Father, and focus on prayer.
The Daniel fast is a partial fast where some foods are consumed but other are restricted for 21 days as an act of worship and consecration to God. The food guidelines for the Daniel Fast are based upon Daniel’s experiences as recorded in Daniel 10. Daniel ate simple foods, taking in only what was necessary for physical sustenance. His fasting unleashed supernatural answers and help.
I believe our fasting will better position us to hear from God and receive supernatural assistance for the issues we face in life. I also believe that God is going to set the tone for this ministry in the next 12 months and wants us to prepare for the great things He has in store for us. From sundown September 7 to sundown September 28 the congregation of LOC will be corporately participating in the Daniel Fast.
